Nixon claimed he was immune because he was the president. He said he had the power to keep his documents confidential
as part of his power. The court did not agreed, and ruled that even though he was the president, he had to follow the same
laws as the rest of the country. He did not have special status to ignore the laws or the subpoena, despite his presidential
status. President Nixon was forced to turn over the documents to the court.
